OAO VU FK Novator, plywood mill in Velikiy Ustyug

Logo Novator This plywood-making facility was designed and built in 1906–09, conceived by Ivan Lvov, a businessman from Velikiy Ustyug.

1910, the Novator trading and industrial partnership community is established.

1911, the facility is upgraded and enlarged.

1918, a shutdown follows events of the 1917 revolution.

1920, Novator partnership plywood mill is nationalized and renamed as Novator Plywood Mill, Velikiy Ustyug; its operation restarts.

1922, the Novator Plywood Mill is acquired by a Moscow group of plywood facilities.

1927, Novator is assigned to Severodvinsk regional executive committee, under charges of no economic rationale for the mill’s operation.

1928–30, the mill undergoes reconstruction, a new production facility is built, process equipment purchased, boiler and machinery sections enlarged, and plywood output doubles.

1931–32, manufacturing of plywood for aviation use is implemented, and export deliveries of plywood go up sharply to reach 40% of the total output.

1943–44, facility upgrading.

1944, a process is implemented for making plywood of coniferous wood (pine).

1950, the mill’s team wins the nationwide competition of forestry and wood-processing industries of the USSR.

1963, the Novator mill is renamed as Velikiy Ustyug Plywood & Furniture Mill and is assigned to the National Economy Council of the Northwest Economic Region.

1974–79, reconstruction and replacement of equipment and a number of manufacturing process components.

1997, an additional rail track is arranged for a newly established production site of the mill near Velikiy Ustyug railway station terminal in order to provide higher efficiency of product shipping and incoming shipments unloading, now processed in-house. The mill switches to a new standard (GOST) of plywood manufacturing; a process is implemented to improve plywood quality.

1998, wood-sawing capacity is expanded.

2002, Novator joins the Sveza Group.

The mill has obtained an international EN (CE-mark) certificate for the manufacturing of FK type plywood.

Novator’s annual plywood manufacturing capacity is 100,000 cubic meters.
